Freund-Quartet

The Quartet was founded in 1983 by Stephan Freund, 1st Concertmaster of the Vogtland Philharmonic Orchestra Greiz/Reichenbach. It was his intention to make music from the past and the present accessible to an interested audience within the region of the Vogtland in Saxony and Thuringia. Soon it was obvious that the Quartet was successful not only with classical compositions but also with programs featuring entertaining chamber music from different epochs.

After first appearances in Saxony and Thuringia, concerts in numerous cities in Germany followed. The ensemble could further present its high standards abroad. Twice it gave guest appearances in Austria (Salzburg), and performed three times in the USA (Chicago) between 1998 and 2000.

Since 1992, the Quartet has increasingly been playing contemporary chamber music. The first CD, "Musik aus der Hütte," was produced in 1997/98. Since 2005, the Quartet has been performing in the current cast.
