General Music Director Stefan Fraas was born in the region of the Vogtland and studied music in Zwickau, Weimar and Dresden. His studies included piano, singing, and conducting of both choir and orchestra. His professional work with orchestras started in 1988 when he became Junior Conductor of the Vogtland Orchestra Reichenbach.
In 1992 he was appointed Conductor and in 1995 Managing Director and Executive Director of the Vogtland Philharmonic Orchestra. From 2000 until 2006 he had been Chief Conductor of the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra in Essen. Concert tours took him and the orchestra to many European countries as well as to Cyprus, Israel, China and to the USA. In 1999 he was appointed Honorary Conductor by the Chinese Radiosymphony Orchestra Bejing. He serves as Vice President of the Musical Council of Saxony as well as Chairman of the Vogtland Cultural Advisory Board.
