After his studies at the Prague Academy of the Artistic Arts, Jiří Malát was appointed Chief Conductor at the Opera in Pilsen in 1981. Apart from this artistically extensive sphere of activity, he furthermore gave guest performances with a number of distinguished orchestras in the former Czechoslovakia, Germany, Switzerland as well as the former Soviet Union.
At the same time he was working as an educator at the Music Conservatory of Pilsen. In 1985, he became Conductor of the "Radio Symphonic Orchestra" in Pilsen, then of the "Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra" in Ostrava, and at the National Theatre of Prague in 1988, where he conducted the premieres of "Don Carlos," "La Traviata" and "Rossinis Barber". As Chief Conductor of the Radio Symphonic Orchestra in Pilsen (1990-1992) he compiled a widely diversified symphonic repertoire and recorded more than 200 titles for the Czech broadcasting company.
Since 1992, Jiří Malát has been living in Germany. Until 2002, he was Chief Conductor of the "Kurpfälzisches Kammerorchester" in Mannheim.
